Mere.faith A personal, uncritical homily of Christ.

1 John 4:19

Have you ever really considered why you love or what makes you love? Is it simply an emotion or something more existential? Does action (doing something for someone else) come from love, or does love come from action?

These questions are both practical and spiritual, and I don’t have answers to them. What I can say is that love is a profound part of the human experience. Not experiencing or feeling loved can damage the human psyche, leading to deep depression and even physical pain.

I can also say that love can be fleeting. It builds over time through shared experiences, but it can also fade from a lack of interaction. It takes time and attention to maintain. You must dutifully take action to feed and grow the love you feel in your heart for someone else.

But I think there is a distinction from human-derived love versus Christ-like love. That latter kind of love that originates from God and is characterized by selflessness, unconditional acceptance, and sacrificial giving. We can emulate that kind of love, but truly posessing that kind of love is reserved only for a perfectly just and Holy God.
